(S.A.) Tornaado  (Yoko’s Tornado) was a horse that I have watched as a yearling, wanted to buy him with all my heart before he started showing, but unfortunately this was not meant to be. My belief in (S.A.)Tornaado was proven correct not only in his performance in South Africa, where he was shown by Andre Maskell to Three National Championship Titles and a National Grand Championship Title, but also in his offspring.  My own stud, Perfect Timing was enough proof to me that (S.A) Tornaado is a brilliant sire. This is even more so with Tornaado’s subsequent success in the States as a sire of multiple World Champions and winners at many shows and now also a broodmare sire of World Champions.

Harlem Globetrotter of KALARAMA FARM is another horse that I admired for years and he is the current No 1 living broodmare sire of World Champions, a fact that is not surprising if one studies his maternal pedigree.

Sir William Robert surely was one of the most impressive Two Year and Three Year old Fine Harness World Champions of all times and subsequently became a very successful sire of World Champions and is the current leading living sire ranked by earnings of get.  ($401 967 at the end of 2008)

What if one combines all of these bloodlines into one horse, surely it would be something special?

Sir Clarence Ronald, is a 5- month old black stud colt by Sir William Robert x Tornaado’s Tidal Wave. Tornaado’s Tidal Wave is a multiple Fine Harness Mare Champion and is by (S.A.)Tornaado out of a Harlem Globetrotter mare,  Octopussy.  Joan Lurie and Darrel Case of Willowbank Farm told me earlier in the Louisville week that they are going to show a very special black colt in the Open Breeder’s Weanling Division, the last class of Tuesday morning. Special was however an understatement, when I saw this colt, he was spectacular!

When this pitch-black 5-month-old stud colt entered the ring it brought a smile to everyone who saw him. All the judges tied him first and he became the World Champion Breeder’s Open Weanling.  Judge Bill Waller beamed from ear to ear when he inspected him in the line-up.

Comments overheard were:” The best weanling that Joan Lurie has ever shown!”  “More impressive than his sire at the same age!” “A really spectacular colt, is he eligible for the All American Cup?”

Well the rest is history. Newline Saddlebred Stud is currently the owner of Sir Clarence Ronald. He will stay at Willowbank Farm where he will continue what we all hope and believe will be an illustrious career. Thanks to his breeder, Joellen Fisher Blount, his previous owner C. Thomas Galbreath and the Willowbank Farm team!

In beginning of October he competed at the Blue Grass Futurity at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and unanimously won the Weanling Futurity as well!

Sir Clarence broke his neck in an accident and is sadly not with us anymore. The dream is shattered... R.I.P.
