Newline's News Bulletin 2009
Kevin and I attended the very well organised Parys Christmas Festival Show and saw one of Kevin's proteges, Neil Valentine winning the Five Gaited Grand Championship on WHAT A HORSE owned by Pieter Jacobs. It was surely one of the best Five Gaited Grand Championship Classes of 2009! Well done to Neil and congratulations to owner Pieter Jacobs. The first ASF Stallion Auction was also held and was a resounding success.
The training of the two young imported colts, Undulata's Made In Heaven and HS Daydream's Premier Night will also start in January 2010. They both have matured beautifully and we are very excited with the potential they have shown. Both are unique in their own way.
Lady Hamilton and Perfect Tango both are at Dreto Stud, Burgersdorp, for the breeding services of their young Dark Raider son, War Image Boy.
The idea of a South African Futurity based on the All American Cup and Blue Grass Futurity was discussed with local breeders. With little time and lots of help from George and Bettie Borcherds as well as Francois Dercksen, the whole idea got off the ground in a very short time and the AFRICA SADDLE HORSE FUTURITY TRUST was formed. The first Stallion Auction was held at Parys Show in December. Read more about the Futurity, the Rules and Regulations here.
Tops and Tails had an extremely animated filly by Action Man. I cannot wait to see her!
Fred Sarver of Cornerstone Farm assisted in the acquiring of two extremely wellbred US broodmares from Leatherwood Farm, Callaway's Lean On Me and Leatherwood's Starlikeness. Both are in foal, Callaway's Lean On Me to Leatherwood Starlight and Leatherwood's Starlikeness to I'm A New Yorker.
Black Magic and Free Radical showed at Robertson and Tulbagh and made us proud. Free Radical won at both shows the Five Gaited Three Year Old Championship and is now offered for sale.
Black Magic put on a brilliant show at both places and has now retired to Newline's broodmare band. Her first foal will be by Hot Ticket, the sensational black stallion of Juhantha Stables.

Miss Tinkerbelle gave birth to a beautiful filly by Rare Supreme, Miss Homecoming Queen. George had a surprise for me when he rode Perfect Timing and gave me the opportunity as well! What a thrill! I have never experienced so much energy and power in a horse. He has the most incredible bounce and animated way of going. I am extremely lucky to own him and am in debt to George for getting him completely sound and very happy. He also had a lot of outside mares this breeding season. His fillies will soon be sought after as broodmares, similar to what is happening to his sire's [(S.A.) Tornaado], fillies in the US.

I had again the privilege to attend the KSF in Louisville and although the idea was not to buy another colt, I have seen the best weanling ever in a Sir William Robert x Tornaado's Tidal Wave baby, Sir Clarence Ronald. In September, Newline became the proud owner of this incredible individual! Read more about him here.

Newline and George Borcherds have together acquired 3 mares to increase Newline's broodmare band. Read more about them in the broodmare division. They are:
Linda's Minca (King's Highlander x Adagio's Coppelia, Tops & Tails Wee Pee (Tango's Wee Pee x Danish Ipitembe) and Ma Baker (Baker Street x Pearly Shells)
Minca and Tops & Tails are in foal to Action Man and all three will be bred to Perfect Timing this season.
Perfect Tango has given birth to a long legged, extremely animated filly! This is Newline's first foal out of a Timing broodmare. Her sire is Rare Supreme, owned by Piet Moller. His pedigree traces back 7 times to Indiana Ace. Perfect Tango is in grand condition as can be seen in this picture! She is an extremely pretty broodmare, and I am very grateful to Dalene Meyer who gave her to me.
The day eventually arrived! The dream, which sometimes seemed impossible, to own and import a Saddlebred colt by Undulata's Nutcracker eventually became a reality! Undulata's Made in Heaven and HS Daydream's Premier Night have begun their South African adventure out of quarantine and are residing at KE Stables from the beginning of March. Although they need lots of KE Stables' professional grooming to get rid of all their winter hair, the incredible potential of these 2 colts are very much evident. Thanks to everyone that made this possible!

Tango's Pearl was pronounced clean in April 2008 (after we last bred her end of February 2008). I thought we would give her one last try in Middelburg after 4 years of struggling to get her in foal trying everything; unfortunately she did not even come in season. She did get a little "fatter" on the green pastures in Middelburg, but nobody realised what she had in store for us! She surprised us all by giving birth to a beautiful long-legged extremely animated chestnut stud colt the morning of 4th February, Power of Perfection! He is a full brother to Black Magic.
Power of Perfection
Perfect Timing and the mares are enjoying their time in Middelburg as one can see from the pictures!
2009 will be a year of great expectations!! The colts arrived 28 January safely in South Africa after they stayed over in Amsterdam for over a week!! We are not allowed to see them before 10 days and we are counting the days and hours to that day! They handled the trip very well and are enjoying the South African sun after the very cold weather in Chicago and Amsterdam!! They are expected out of quarantine early March if all goes well.
All the mares are in foal except Tango's Pearl. Sultan's Charming Lady and Sugini are again in foal to Timing with Lady Hamilton, Miss Tinkerbelle and Perfect Tango in foal to Rare Supreme. There is a lot to look forward to this year.
Kevin and the horses are training hard for the 2009 National Championship Show at Bloemfontein which will be held during the week of 28 April - 2 May.
