Newline's News Bulletin 4

November 2008

The relocation went smoothly and Timing, his mares and goat are extremely happy at Middelburg!!

Plans are also in place to get the colts to South Africa end of January 2009. Brian Roux of BBR Bloodstock is handling everything. Fred Sarver contacted me to enquire about swopping A Night's Tale for a colt by CF First Night Out x A Daydream Believer (BHF). This was an opportunity of a lifetime to get the blood of an extremely well bred colt (HS Daydream's Premier Night) to South Africa!  After seeing pictures of him and studying his pedigree, the choice was made. He and his mate Made in Heaven started there quarantine at Dr Jeff Cook's farm at the beginning of December 2008. They are expected in South Africa at the end of January 2009! (A Night's Tale's name was subsequently changed by his new owner to Latest Greatest)

Black Magic did extremely well at the Boland and W.P Championship Shows. She was Reserve Three Gaited Mare Champion at Robertson and although Kevin broke his wrist he still manage to show her to perfection! After the show Perfect Timing and the Mares relocated to Middelburg.

Newline also had to make the difficult decision to relocate all the breeding horses to one place. George Borcherds agreed to manage Perfect Timing, his goat and mares on his farm in Middelburg; they will relocate to Middelburg at the end of September. Lady Hamilton will be send to Rare Supreme for breeding and the plan is then to keep her outside to see if her hooves will not improve. Miss Tinkerbelle will also be bred to Rare Supreme and will also relocate to Middelburg when in foal.

Newline is proud to announce the acquisition of the first Undulata's Nutcracker colt destined for South Africa! He was bought during the 2008 KSF from Joan Lurie's Willowbank Farm. Everybody that has seen him agrees that he is probably the best Nutcracker colt that were available at the time. Time will tell if we were correct! His name is Undulata's Made In Heaven and he is only 3 months old. You can read more about him on his webpage.

A beautiful stud colt was born for Newline out of Katharine's Perfect Night, the mare that was bought in August 2007 at Kentucky to breed to Undulata's Nutcracker. He is by the first S.A. born Five Gaited World Grand Champion, Zovoorbij Commander In Chief and has been named A Night's Tale. Now we are trying to get Perfect Night in foal to Undulata's Nutcracker.

Disappoinment!!! Kevin unfortunately badly hurt his back just before the show and could not show any horses at Bloemfontein! Neil Valentine had a catch ride on Black Magic and got a well deserved 3rd place in the Three Gaited Mare Stake over 5 year. We had to rethink the way going forward and after seeing several specialists it was decided that Kevin could continue training but drastically had to reduce his horses and are now only training 10 horses from just a couple of customers.

September/October 2007

Kevin made brilliant shows at both Tulbagh and Robertson with Black Magic where she won the 4 Year old Three Gaited in grand style! Now we hold thumbs for the S.A. National Championship in 2008!

I was lucky to attend the 104th World Championship Horse Show at Louisville, Kentucky and saw some awesome horses! A young stallion's offspring that caught the eye was Undulata's Nutcracker. As we know it is extremely difficult  to import frozen semen and then it is impossible to get mares in foal. An opportunity arose when I visited Tornaado at Leatherwood Stud Farm and I acquired a young mare, Katharine's Perfect Night through Fred Sarver. She is by Mountainview's Oh Heavenly Day!  out of the mare Katharine's Perfect Night. She was already in foal to WGC Commander in Chief and we hope for a filly! The idea is afterwards to breed her to Undulata's Nutcracker and to bring the foal, hopefully a colt to South Africa to strenghten our gene pool.
