"Edgewood King 17500, owned by C.P. Martin,Canton,Ohio, has not been defeated in several years. He compiled an extremely impressive record in 1945 and 1946, having shown in thirty-eight classes, winning thirty-three firsts, four seconds and one third. He is a very beautiful stallion and executes his gaits in a brilliant manner."

Edgeview King was imported by Fanie Fouche  early in 1948 and he remained the top sire at Constantia, Rouxville, untill his death on 1 April 1960.

Lee Kaplan wrote in AMERICAN SADDLE HORSES IN SOUTH AFRICA:

"...this is a horse who has done a fantastic amount for the Saddlebred in this country. (South Africa)..."

He was however maybe a few years too soon - when he was imported we had a few purebred mares and regrettably only a very few were bred to him. We could just think what the impact would be when the opposite happened. Even with the few purebred matings  he left a legacy of show horses and had a large impact on the South African Saddle Horse industry.

One of his son's, Churchill, won the Five Gaited Grand Champion in 1963.

Another son, King's Parader (out of Mantilla by Edgeview King) is most probably the best known of his get, siring the South African legend - "Witgesig" ,  Parader's Mc Donald - the only horse who could won S.A.Grand Championship titles in two divisions.
