Edna May's King was a great show horse and he also proved his significance at stud. When he was twelve years old he was sold to Mr. R.W. Morrison, Texas, for the record price of$40 000.

Anacacho Shamrock was bred out of the mating of him with Sally Cameron. Anacacho Shamrock in turn sired Wing Commander as well as Fairy Darling (dam of Stonewall Starfire) amongst others.

Jane Black produced two full brothers, Anacacho Denmark and Cameo Kirby. Cameo Kirby was owned by Floyd Shofner and stood at Hide-Away Farms in Indiana. He was the sire of the great fine harness horse, The Lemon Drop Kid, as well as CAMEO'S FAREWELL.

Just Plain Jane - the dam of CAMEO'S FAREWELL- was a really great broodmare, probably the best known daughter of Indiana Ace. She is also listed in the Broodmare Hall of Fame. When bred to Cameo Kirby she produced Love and Kisses and CAMEO'S FAREWELL.

CAMEO'S FAREWELL was bred by James W. Aikman and imported to South Africa by Godfrey Gird who personally selected him in 1956.

The following is part of a write up that appeared in Saddle and Bridle, February 1969.

"…….Sixteen years ago, two young men from South Africa toured the United States in search of a outstanding available stallion and three brood mares to import into their country. The stallion of their choice was purchased from Jim Aikman and was the magnificent and last son of Cameo Kirby and out of the then four-year-old mare Just Plane Jane. This stallion was only two years old at the time and was named CAMEO'S FAREWELL.

In these sixteen years, CAMEO'S FAREWELL has dominated both Sire Ratings (Senior and Futurity) in South Africa and leads both the Futurity and Performance Divisions at this time….."

CAMEO'S FAREWELL was transferred from H.W. Gird and Sons to P.J. van der Merwe, Cypress Grove, Merriman in approximately 1964 and then was owned by Monty Joubert and Bill Sieberhagen in1967 and thereafter Fanie Naude, at whose farm he died on 13 May 1970, just a few days short of his sixteenth birthday.

CAMEO'S FAREWELL had shown a lot of potential in harness and under saddle, but unfortunately he injured his pastern which necessitated an operation. This was quite successful but he was ridden too soon afterwards with the result that he could never be worked again, so he was used entirely as a Stud Stallion and bred 202 offspring of which the majority left their mark in the South African Saddle Horse industry till today.

CAMEO'S FAREWELL is the only South African Stallion that sired Grand Champions in all four divisions.
